Course Material and Description:

LANGUAGE! Live will be the curriculum used for Accelerated Reading. The LANGUAGE! Live program blends personalized, online learning with teacher-directed instruction to empower learners to close the learning gap. The carefully crafted learning progression in LANGUAGE! Live improves students’ word analysis, spelling, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary and writing with an emphasis on multi-syllabic words and morphology that expands reading skills and builds vocabulary. This course is designed to improve your: reading fluency, comprehension, and increase your writing skills.

Instructional Methods:

LANGUAGE! Live allows each student to move at his own pace online to improve his reading, writing and language skills while being exposed to high-interest, complex text with rigorous vocabulary through teacher-directed instruction. The structure of this class is determined by the needs of the students enrolled as identified by periodic assessments. There is work that students must complete individually as well as small group lessons. There will also be occasional one on one instruction as needed. Based on identified student needs, all students may not all be working on the same assignments at all time. Parents and students may check the class calendar posted on the teacher webpage for deadlines and announcements. Mrs. Whaley also uses the REMIND student messaging system to notify students and parents of important deadlines and announcements. Parents are encouraged to sign up for this system along with the student for the best and most up to date information about the class or assignments.

Grading:

Summative/ major (tests/quizzes/projects)

Formative/ minor (homework, bell work and class assignments)

• Although the Language! Live program typically does not involve homework, students are expected to work for an entire class period. If there is work that could have been completed in class and was not finished, it is up to the teacher's discretion to ask the student to finish it for homework.

• Language! Live skills assessments are expected to be turned in on or before the due date. Late work due to absences will follow the SDGC and EHS policies regarding makeup work

Bell Work and classwork:

Students will be responsible for completing bell work most days at the start of class. The bell work will be posted daily. Bell work will be a weekly grade for participation and performance. Additionally, students will have daily work to complete for each day and will reinforce comprehension strategies taught in class.

Supplies:

Students will be supplied everything they need for my class.
