Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you find helpful information for your attendance concerns.

Procedure for Absences

Please remember that upon returning to school after an absence, the student must bring a note to the front office upon arrival to school. The note should contain the following:

Student’s full name

Date(s) of absence

Reason for absence

Parent or guardian’s signature

For your convenience, CLICK HERE to submit an online parent excuse note.

As we come to the close of this school year, I strongly advise you to view your child’s attendance status. Please check for any “unexcused” absences. In many cases, the unexcused absence coding is a result of failure to submit an excuse note (parent, medical, legal document, etc…). Please be aware that in compliance to the SC Attendance Law, should a student receive five (5) or more unexcused absences, that student becomes Truant. When a student receives a truancy status not only is that student in jeopardy of losing credit hours, but a Truancy Referral is also issued. The referral is cleared if the unexcused/unlawful absences become less than five and/or the excuse note(s) submitted are excused.

Did you know that . . .?

Regular school attendance and academic success are connected.

Regular attendance and arriving to school on time are very important to a student’s success in school.

Excessive absenteeism hurts the student.

Students with repeated absences not only often fall behind academically, but these students also miss out on important socialization skills and concepts that enhance their ability to understand and follow directions.

One missed day of school is equivalent to as many as three days of catch up.

Students are given an allowance of days for make-up work; however, within in this framework of time, a child may struggle to learn all the missed material and information.

Parents, I strongly encourage you to view the Attendance Regulations outlined in your child’s agenda. You will find detailed information of attendance requirements and procedures. I look forward to a successful school year!

Please feel free to contact the Attendance Office for any further questions or concerns.
