Classroom Management

I use a tool called Class Dojo in the classroom for behavior management. It allows the for instantaneous positive reinforcement and is an effective tool to communicate with parents about any behavior problems that may be happening in the classroom. It is an instant feedback system that allows parents to stay updated throughout the day. The students earn points for various positive things such as following directions, helping others, completing homework, etc. Should a student break a rule, they will then lose a point or points based on the individual incident. When points are taken away, a note will be uploaded into Dojo on their story as to what happened. The notes are private and no one has access to them but the parent(s).

Students start earning points from the moment they enter the classroom until they leave the building. They will gain points throughout the week and can redeem them on Fridays for various coupons. They can earn things like use a pen, bring a furry friend to school, or even a homework pass. Points get reset at the end of the day on Friday. There is a total for the whole class as well. The students can earn whole class rewards such as extra recess, no morning work, etc. based on the number of points they receive that week.
