Our Class Highlights

Arrival: School begins at 7:45. Our school offers free breakfast for everyone. If you’d like your child to eat breakfast at school, they must arrive before 7:30 in order to have time to eat before 7:45.

Lunch: Lunch is FREE for everyone this year! You can find the menu on the EWE website. If you choose to send a lunchbox with your child, there is no microwave for student lunches. Our lunch time is 10:50 - 11:15.

Transportation: If there are any changes in afternoon transportation, please let us know by sending in a note. All transportation changes must be in writing and placed in the front pocket of student binders.

Homework: Starting in September, students will have a weekly homework sheet sent home on Mondays. These will be simple review activities and will be due each Friday.

Reading Logs: Reading with your child is so important at this age. In your child’s binder, you will find a daily reading log with 1-2 books sent home each week. Please read one of the books each night with your child and record it in their reading log. At the beginning of the year, you will read the books to your child. As students progress in their reading skills they will read the books to you! They should read the books each night to practice and become more fluent in their reading.

Snack: Because of our early lunchtime, students tend to get hungry in the afternoons. We offer a time in the afternoons for our students to eat a small snack.  We ask that students take turns providing a small snack for the class (24 students) - it works out to only once every other month. At the beginning of each month, we will send home a snack calendar so you will know if you are responsible for sending snacks that month.  *Please let me know if you are unable to provide snacks or if you would not like to participate in this.

Related Arts: Each day, we have the opportunity to go to related arts classes. Students love this time! Students will go to Art, Library, Computer lab, STEAM lab, Music and PE. On PE day, please make sure your child wears tennis shoes to school.

Field Trips:  We are excited to be working on plans for several trips throughout the year!  Parents are welcome to go with us, but will need to drive separately from the bus and follow us to our destination. Don’t forget to fill out the volunteer form and turn in to the office. *Any volunteer or chaperone must fill out the forms and be approved.

Email: Each Monday, I will send an email outlining what we will be working on throughout the week and any upcoming events. Please include the email address in which you would like to receive these emails on your student information sheet.

Contact: I am here to love and serve your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything! My email address is shduerk@greenville.k12.sc.us and my phone number is 355-4928. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
