Spanish 2 honors

Spanish 2 Honors

Expectations:

Learning a foreign language can be fun, but it also takes serious effort. My expectations will be high. I expect students to be able to listen closely to directions, keep up with assignments, study, and to keep an organized eNotebook. I expect students to follow the rules of my classroom and Eastside's policies found in the Student Handbook. Please review our policy on Chromebook use: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AuZ1lE6x3iiwkw1c0_3nsvCetGKA-w0HYuQw-ser2Yw/edit

****This is an Honors level course. Copying from other students' work, using online translators for writing assignments, cheating during tests/quizzes will result in a 0 and a referral. Please be mindful and think about the integrity of your reputation as an Eastside student!****

Grading Plan:

Assessments in the World Language classroom reflect and mirror performance-based instructional activities taking place in the classroom on a daily basis. They allow students to demonstrate what they know and can do in the language, showing their progress toward increased language proficiency in multiple ways using real-world tasks. In modern languages, a balance across the three modes of communication is critical. Gathering assessment evidence of these three modes (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational) reminds teacher and students that all three are necessary to function and communicate in real-world situations.

Interpretive tasks are one-way listening or reading activities in which students must demonstrate an understanding of what they have heard or read.

Interpersonal tasks are two-way, interactive, typically speaking activities that require students to communicate in a spontaneous manner without the use of a written script.

Presentational tasks are prepared, generally formal speaking or writing activities involving one-way communication to an audience of listeners or speakers.

In general, the grades will be based on the above criteria and will be later categorized as: Major Assessments - 60%, Minor Assignments - 40%.

Homework Policy:

Homework is due on the assigned due date. Late homework will be docked ten points each day it is late. After five days, it will be counted as a zero. In addition, it will be essential to keep an organized notebook as all work and assessments will be cumulative throughout the year.

Extra Assistance Policy:

I am available for extra help as long as the student shows 100% effort in class! A great deal of language acquisition requires memorization! I will provide Quizlet flashcards, but you will need to study a bit each day!

Missed Work/Make-up Policy:

All students have five days to make up missed work. I highly recommend that the student make up missed work as soon as possible. The student must keep up with Google Classroom for work and PowerSchool for grades. If a student is absent on the day of a test, quiz, assessment, they are expected to be ready to make it up upon their return to school. If a student fails to make up work within five days, he or she will receive a zero.

Attendance and Tardy Policy:

I will follow the Greenville County School District and Eastside High School policies for attendance and tardies.

Rules for Student Behavior: Students will either conduct themselves appropriately or accept the consequences of their misbehavior. My general classroom rules are to: 1) Arrive on time wearing ID. 2) Be prepared with all materials and study notes each day. 3) Show respect to teacher, classmates, and classroom. 4) Participate in all activities; follow Zoom protocols. 5) Communicate with me in-person/email or phone call if there is a problem I need to be aware of.

Consequences:

1st Offense: Warning

2nd Offense: Student/Teacher Conference

3rd Offense: Contact Home

4th Offense: Referral

**Severe offenses will result in immediate referral

Parents and students are encouraged to check PowerSchool for weekly grades. If you don’t have access to the internet, I’ll be happy to send home a printed copy of the report.
