About Me

Hello, I am Sarah Jackson. I began teaching seventh grade at BRMS in 2003, and moved up to eighth grade in 2014 for two years. I am now on the related arts team where I teach Creative Writing and Yearbook to seventh and eighth graders, and I also teach eighth grade ELA Gifted and Talented students.

I received my undergraduate degree from Clemson University and moved to Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina soon after I graduated. At Cape Hatteras I was a Park Ranger at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Yes, I wore the uniform, including the famous Smokey the Bear hat. Cape Hatteras National Seashore includes Fort Raleigh National Historic Site which was the site of the first English colonies in America in the 1500s. It was the home of the famous "Lost Colony". Cape Hatteras National Seashore also includes the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kitty Hawk, the site of man's first flight, the Bodie (pronounced "body") Island Lighthouse, and the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on the East Coast and the one that guards the "Graveyard of the Atlantic". Ocracoke Island finishes out Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Ocracoke Island is where Robert Maynard killed the infamous pirate, Blackbeard. The legend says his treasure is still buried there. I spent many days of my childhood searching for it. Unfortunately to no avail!

I worked at all the areas of the seashore, but most of my time was spent at Fort Raleigh. My favorite things to do there were research about the history of the site and perform programs for school children. Therefore, when I sadly left the Outer Banks and returned to Greenville, my home town (I am a graduate of Greenville High School), I enrolled at Furman University and received my teaching certificate and my Masters Degree in Language Arts. Later, I am proud to say, I earned my National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist and I renewed it several years ago.

I taught fifth grade at Stone Academy, an arts magnet school in downtown Greenville, before coming to Blue Ridge Middle.

I am the parent of two children. My oldest child is my daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. She is now living at Cape Hatteras, and my son, Jackson, is a graduate of The University of South Carolina and is working as a Product Manager at a local business.
