B.E.S.T

Our school expectations are known as B.E.S.T.

Children are expected to “Be Your BEST” each day. The BEST acronym stands for:

Be in control.

Encourage others.

Show respect.

Take responsibility.

Discipline is a very important aspect of a classroom setting, especially an early childhood classroom. Our goal is to create a safe learning environment that promotes learning, socialization, and problem solving skills. Every aspect of your child’s school day is centered on this goal to provide a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning.

I will use Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline to guide our decisions and actions in fostering your child’s emotional independence. Conscious Discipline is derived from current brain research to best help your child manage their emotional needs. For a letter from Dr. Becky Click Here .

The skills your child needs are best learned through hands-on activities and social interactions. We will encourage your child to develop skills to solve problems on their own. The children will learn to respect themselves and others as we model appropriate ways to handle challenging situations. We will accept each child’s feelings and unique personalities.

Your child will be allowed to make reasonable and safe choices and decisions about their experiences in the classroom. Allowing your child to make these decisions will provide him or her with the confidence needed to succeed in life. If your child does not choose to work within the reasonable choices, then natural and logical consequences will be applied. Rewards and criticisms are not a part of this discipline system. Of course at times you will see rewards in other aspects of the classroom, but we do not have a “clip chart” or a “color system” that connects to behavior.

We will work together as a class to develop classroom rules. Your child will have an active role in determining the rules that are appropriate for our class. We will discuss the ways to stay safe and respect our friends, teachers, and other adults in the school. The children will be actively involved in solving many of the day-to-day problems we encounter in our classroom. We will work together! If there are any problems, we will contact you by note, email or phone.

Example of logical consequences for a continued behavior in the classroom:

**Consequences may change due to the severity of the situation.**

Your child will grow emotionally and academically throughout this school year. I will encourage your child every step of the way and I look forward to working closely with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your help in supporting our classroom management goals.

Thank you
