English 1
English 1 curriculum teaches the skills of reading, writing, discussion, language use, and vocabulary development through the study of both literature and informational texts. Core readings include novels, plays, short stories, and poetry. Students will be asked to explore additional works of literature as well. The course is aligned with South Carolina English 1 college and career readiness standards.
Learning Goals for the Course:
Understand and communicate their personal narrative and how they are connected to literature.
Organize their thoughts and write effectively to communicate ideas to their audience.
Articulate important ideas and characteristics from fiction and nonfiction literature (multiple mediums).
Read for 20 minutes without distraction, understanding key elements from the text.
