Dear Students and Parents,

I am very excited to be your child's journalism teacher at RGS!  We are going to produce many great things this year: a daily newscast and a yearbook! After beginning the program last year, this year we will focus on honing on craft with a greater emphasis on Associated Press writing skills and photojournalism skills.

We have some great guest speakers headed our way as well- Moody Black, a professional poet and photographer will be our artist-in-residence for a week.  Students will learn photography skills, how to find their "newscaster voice," and basic poetry writing skills.  The unit will culminate in a video with photography and a poem voice-over about the school culture here at RGS.

We will also have several former and current news personlities visiting to share their experiences working in news!

About Me:

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina, and my Master’s in Education from Converse College.  I have been teaching for eleven years.  I have three children whose ages are 18, 15, and 12- with the youngest attending RGS.

Office Hours:

My planning period is 9:50-10:50 each day.  I am available easily by email and phone call.   Please have your student contact me if he needs any additional help or does not fully grasp a concept.  He/she can easily reach me by using the Remind app.

First Assignments:

Students will spend the first few days getting to know each other and the procedures of the course.  We will begin by studying the history of journalism. Then we will go immediately into producing news.
