AP Human Geograpy
Welcome to AP Human!
This is a college level intro course to human geography. The content is presented by themes rather than by regions. Our class will be organized around subfields such as: economic geography, cultural geography, political geography and urban geography. The approach is spatial and problem oriented. The emphasis is understanding the world in which we live. We will use historical information to enrich our analysis of the impacts of such things as globalization, colonialism, human-environment relationships, cultural landscapes and patterns of interaction.
Summer Information:
What can you do this summer to help you get off to a good start for the 2022-24 school year? I highly encourage you to do three things:
Stay informed of current events- If you read the description of the course above, you will see that it would be useful to understand what is going on in the world around us. You would greatly benefit by watching/reading about current events. Find reputable and unbiased sources for world news. You might download a news app, read articles from several news sources or find current event podcasts. Having this background knowledge will help you contribute to class discussions and will help you with examples for your writing assignments.
Read- Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall. This will help you with background on many of the topics we will discuss. Plus, it will help explain many of the current geopolitical events in the world today.
Learn the location of all the countries- Although this is not the bulk of what we discuss in this class, you will need to know your world map! We will have map quizzes with each unit. You will need to know the locations for writing prompts. You can practice this summer by using the website below.
