About Me

Hi there! I am a certified Physical Education Teacher who has been teaching for 20.5 years. I have a Masters Degree from Clemson University in Special Education and a Bachelors Degree from Bob Jones University in Health and Physical Education. My teaching experience includes both elementary and middle school-aged students. I have taught health, physical education, adapted PE, Adult GE classes and worked three years as an Inclusion 7th grade Special Education teacher. I also have taught classes for the YMCA including step aerobics, kick boxing, weight training, water aerobics and swimming.

I moved to South Carolina 28 years ago from Pennsylvania and I live in Simpsonville with the husband, two children and Heidi, our golden retriever. I grew up working on produce and animal farms.

I love eating and picking blueberries, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans and peas. I grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania and my parents continue to grow lots of vegetables. I also enjoy smoothies and salads.

I love all sports and outdoor physical activities. In my spare time I ride my bike on the Swamp Rabbit trail with my husband of 25 years and my children. I am a runner and have run two half marathons and several 5k's.

Thanks for learning about me. Tell me something about YOU!

My Mission Statement

As the Physical Education Teacher at Simpsonville Elementary School, I'd like you to know about my program and philosophy for teaching our children. My goal as a teacher is to help your child develop the skills and desire to become physically active for a lifetime. I follow a skill theme approach to teaching Physical Education. Rather than focusing on game playing, the focus will be on improving motor skills. Games that single out children to perform solo with everyone watching, can be both embarrassing and discouraging. Also, certain games can be boring for the highly skilled and too hard for the poorly skilled. My focus will be to expose our children to a variety of physical experiences that are fun, challenging and appropriate to each child's developmental level. on fundamental movements that will later be combined with other skills and used in more complex settings. Overall my primary goal is to encourage our students to experience success in movement and develop positive attitudes about themselves and physical activity so that they choose to be physically active throughout their lives.
