Overview: The language arts curriculum is a balance of writer’s workshop (topics and genres based on literature selections or self-selected) and the writing projects listed below. Daily read alouds and the discussions they evoke are used as a springboard to this personal writing process. Mini lessons based on individual student’s needs are offered in addition to the ones that follow. Vocabulary is taught in context.

Grading Policy:

50% Major:

  • 45%: Major grades- Unit tests, formal writing, and unit projects
  • 5%: Benchmarks and final exam

50% Minor:

  • 30%: Warm-up packets, informal writing, mini-projects, and quizzes
  • 20%: Daily work, skills, and enrichment activities, homework

Grading Scale:

A 100-90

B 89-80

C 79-70

D 69-60

F below 59
