Class Rules and Consequences

Class Rules

Our class developed these rules after each student recorded his hope and dream for the year. Together, we worked to find rules we all agreed upon to make everyone’s dream come true. While there are only 5 general rules, students understand that these rules encompass a greater detail of behaviors.

  1. Stay focused on your work
  2. Follow directions the first time
  3. Be patient, positive, and accepting of others
  4. Raise your hand and wait to speak
  5. Be careful with school materials

Consequences

Responsive Classroom focuses on logical consequences. I use these three in my classroom. Responsive Classroom discourages the use of tangible rewards, colors, marks and believes students will learn appropriate behavior is “taking care of themselves” and “taking care of others”.

1. Reparation (You break it, you fix it.)

This allows a student to fix a problem he has caused.

2. Loss of privilege

Student loses the privilege of participating in an activity or using material for a brief time.

3. Positive Time-Out

Students move to the Peace Place to calm down and recover self-control. The teacher may send a student or a student may move himself to time-out.
