Subject: 7th grade Literature + ENG GT

I am very excited to be a 7^th grade teacher at Hughes Academy. I will be teaching literature this year. This will be my fourth year teaching at Hughes Academy and I could not have more enthusiasm and new ideas to get the students active in the classroom! I graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Education focusing on Language Arts and Social Studies and have been in the classroom ever since. I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio (GO CAVS! GO INDIANS!). I am very excited for this years adventure!

I believe that reading can be something that students have a love-hate relationship with. My goal is to make reading interesting and relevant to all students. My personal middle school experience was not one of the best times for me. Seeing that, I chose to be a middle school teacher. This can be a difficult time in a student’s life mentally, physically and emotionally. Having a teacher that cares and has an interest in them can make a world of a difference.

In my classroom, we are continually moving and doing hands on activities. I find that students learn best by actually discovering and applying concepts instead of just reading and answering questions. I am a creative teacher and I like to find ways that each style of learner can exemplify and show what they have learned! We even have a unique-new classroom design focused on flexible seating. Each student will have a chance to sit in each spot, and if a certain spot does not work best for their learning, PLEASE let me know!!

We are also planning a field trip to Biltmore for the students that goes along with our STEAM Unit around the novel Serafina and the Black Cloak. Our estimated trip date will be February 2019. More information will be coming to you soon!!
