Narrative/Fairytales/A Long Walk to Water

In our first quarter, we focus on narrative writing. We begin with re-writing a fairytale. Students pick whichever fairytale they like and rewrite it with specific requirements. We follow this short unit with a novel unit. It is meant to give students a break in between two big papers. This year we are reading A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. We will analyze the book as we read and focus on character development, plot development, etc. When we finish the book, we will jump into our big paper, the narrative paper. Students will create a survivor/journey narrative, which is the type of story in our book study.
