A.    Course Description:

Strategies for Success is a class that remediates academic and organizational skills so that students can be successful in the school environment. Reading, writing, math, organization and behavioral skills will be taught to ensure the success for each student. The individual needs and goals (personal and academic) of each student will be addressed and considered in all aspects of this course. Modifications will be made as necessary.

 

B.     Instructional Goals:

1.      To achieve success in all content areas.

2.      To develop and reinforce study and organizational skills.

3.      To promote student responsibility and personal life skills.

4.      To strengthen awareness of current events, contemporary issues, and cultural literacy through reading and writing skills.

5.      To meet all goals of established individual education plans.

 

C.    Daily Materials Needed:

1.      Chromebook (charged!)

2.      Pen or pencil

3.      Books and assignments from mainstream classes

 

D.    Daily Procedures:

1.      Bell Ringer

2.      Direct Instruction

3.      Independent Work

4.      Tutorial: teacher direction, guidance and assistance will be available to each student.

 

E.     Student Responsibilities:

1.      Each student is responsible for bringing all necessary materials to class daily. The student will be responsible for organizing the resource notebook.

2.      Active participation in all teacher-directed and independent activities.

3.      Each student is expected to use time in class and assistance available to ensure his/her academic success.

4.      Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner and show consideration for each person in the classroom.

5.      Respect the environment and classroom we are using that belong to other teachers!!!

 

F.      Grading Procedures:

1.      Bell Ringer/Essential Question                        20%

2.      Daily Assignments                                        50%

3.      Projects/Tests                                                    30%

 

G.    Classroom Expectations

1.      Bring all necessary materials to class each day.

2.      Follow all instructions on the FIRST request.

3.      Be alert and attentive in class.

4.      Respect all teachers, students and property.

5.      Be in your seat and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.

6.      Positive words only! No Profanity!!!

7.      Follow all Greenville High School policies and procedures at all times.

8.      No cell use in class!!!! (unless teacher permission is given)
