2. Keep hands & feet to yourself

3. Treat others respectfully at all times

4. Immediately contact a teacher on duty with any injury or problem

5. Students who have lost recess for problems will walk laps around the track

Communication between Home & School

Communication is a crucial component for success in children’s education. It makes a significant difference when positive, supportive communication occurs regularly between parents and teachers. Parents should feel free to contact me at any time during the school year. Some communication examples are listed below.

· Weekly newsletters come home each Monday with important dates, topics of study, and notes of importance.

· Phone calls made to teachers go directly to voicemail so that instruction is not interrupted. Calls will be returned in a timely manner.

· Parents and teachers can also communicate through e-mail. My e-mail address is ttatum@greenville.k12.sc.us E-mail is the best way to contact me, and they will be answered in a timely manner as well.

· Conferences are held towards the end of the first nine week period. Additional conferences are held as needed.

· Parents may visit the teacher’s website for useful information as well.

Homework Pass Policy

A homework pass may be used in my class for one assignment. For example, if there is a math and a spelling assignment, you may choose to use a homework pass for only one of those assignments. Homework passes can not be used on major projects or special assignments designated by the teacher in advance. Passes can be earned through completion of various assignments throughout the year, or as rewards for superior work/performance.

Visitor Policy

Please understand the importance of instructional time not being interrupted. I will not be available to meet with you during instructional time so that student progress can be my first priority. If you like you are more than welcome to visit with your child at lunch!

Grades * Homework * Tests

· Each week we will discuss a new strategy in reading. We may read story, poem or use a song. There will be homework each night pertaining to the skill we are learning. Sometimes, the students will just have to read.

· Spelling tests will be given each Friday. Students are responsible for about 15 words each week.

· Grades in all other subject areas will be taken on a regular basis through daily work and open book quizzes. You will be informed of any end of unit tests in advance to allow enough study time. Please utilize the study guides that come home. They cover several of the test questions

· Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Occasionally students will need to complete an assignment over the weekend.

· Grades are calculated based on the following percentages which are mandated by the district:

Math, Science/Health, Social Studies, Reading- 60% daily, 40% tests

Language Arts- 10% Spelling, 50% English Daily Grades, 40 %Reading Test Grades

· Grading Scale:

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

D 60-69

F 59 & Below

Non-instructional Routines

· Students are allowed to bring water to school to drink during the day and it may be kept on their desks. The water has to be in a bottle with a lid. The water fountain is also available.

· If I have to take other items because they become a problem during the school day, students will get the items back on Friday (of the same week). If I have to take the item again after that first time, a parent will have to come pick up the item.

· Students’ names and numbers need to be on ALL work!
