all about mrs. ruskin

My name is Lisa Ruskin and I was born and raised in and around the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.  I graduated from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and then I continued my education at Marygrove College, earning my Master's degree in the Art of Teaching.  My family and I moved to Simpsonville back in 2006.  We are so happy to have moved to such a wonderful community!  This year I will have two of my daughters in college and one will be a senior at Hillcrest High School.   The Ruskin Family are animal lovers!  We have a dog named Pepper, a bird named Romeo, a cat named Gibby, and a spotted gecko named Scully.  Looks like I will be investing in more swiffer sweepers and vacuums.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, attempting some projects (not many because I can never complete those things!), but most of all, just spending time with my family and friends.  Our family has many traditions that we cherish! One is a weekly tradition, where every Friday night, we order pizza and settle in for a movie.  Another tradition we celebrate that comes from my husband's side of the family is making pierogies, which are a type of Polish dumpling. All of the aunts, uncles, grandmas, and cousins come to our house once a year to make HUNDREDS of pierogies.  There is lots of love and laughter (and flour is EVERYWHERE!), as well as lots of memories made!

I truly enjoy being with the students each and every day! Once students enter my classroom, they become "My Kids" and are a part of my heart forever! I work very hard to make them see that just as we have families at home, we also have a classroom family.  I want them to understand that while we are together in school, we need to trust one another, get along, and give each other support so that we all can be our best!
