Mrs. Parris’ Syllabus 2022-2023

Welcome to 4th grade! We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year with your child.  It is important that we all work together to ensure your child’s educational growth. Therefore, we must keep an open line of communication to discuss the accomplishments and concerns of all our students. Please feel free to contact me at the following:

I will be sending home a weekly newsletter through your child’s daily folder on Mondays, announcing upcoming events, tests, projects, etc. I will send home graded paper assessments through your child’s daily folder. However, most assessments are completed on Chromebooks; therefore, most online assessments can be accessed through your child’s Google Classroom on his/her Chromebook.

Homework policy:

Homework assignments are an extension and reinforcement of classroom instruction. Classwork that is not completed during the day will automatically become homework, in addition to any regular homework assigned.

Students are expected to write their daily homework assignments in their planner.   The teacher will also update the “planner” tab with the same information on the classroom website should your child be absent or come in late.

A spelling choice board will be placed in your child’s daily folder. This is a way for your child to study his/her spelling words but will NOT be collected.

South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards:

A complete listing of standards can be accessed through the Greenville County School District web-site and the South Carolina State Department web-site. www.greenville.k12.sc.us http://ed.sc.gov/visitors/parents

Procedures for non-instructional routines:

When students arrive in the mornings, they will unpack, sharpen pencils and collect materials for the day.

During bathroom breaks, we go to the restroom as a class.  If a student has an emergency and has to use the restroom at a time other than the classroom visits, he/she will be allowed to go as needed.

If you feel that your child needs to have a cell phone at school, the expectation is that it will remain in their backpack and be turned off throughout the school day. The school is not liable for the loss or damage of the phone when at school. If the phone is out during the school day it will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.

Birthday Invitations: In accordance with Greenville County Schools, invitations may be passed out to the entire class by the student ONLY!

Classroom Management Plan:

1 Classroom Rule: If what you are doing interferes with someone’s learning, hurts someone’s heart, or prevents you from being your best self, you shouldn’t be doing it!

 Chromebook Usage

To ensure the privacy and safety of our students, and to protect data and our resources, we ask parents and students to become familiar with policies and regulations that have been established for technology use in the district. The district’s Acceptable Use Policy (Board Policy and Administrative Rule EFE) is available on the district web site,

              https//:www.greenville.k12.sc.us/departments/main.asp?titleid=etsaup

Mountain View also has their own technology handbook that will be sent home, signed and returned. There is

also a copy on my website.

Students should come to school with their Chromebook fully charged and bring their charger in their backpack, we do not have extra chargers in the classroom.
