My name is Kathy Beck and I teach 7th grade Social Studies at Mauldin Middle School. I am very excited to be teaching this class. We will take a journey together to gain a new perspective and begin to see how our lives, here in the upstate of South Carolina, fit into this global picture.

This is my 15th year of teaching, 13th year here at Mauldin. I love teaching at Mauldin Middle School! I taught 6th grade Social Studies for two years back when the school first opened its doors. I then continued for a year in the Guidance Office before deciding to stay home with my then one-year old son. Life has changed since then as we now have three kids – Collin who is 17, Caden who is 15, and Kate who is 11. They make things very interesting around our home - bringing much joy and craziness in everything they do. My husband, Nathan, is a project manager for Samson Stone Company. There is rarely a dull moment around our house! We enjoy getting together with friends, watching the boys play both football and soccer and watching college football (Go Blue and Go Dawgs)!

I received my Masters of Education at Anderson University in May 2009. Being a wife, a mother and a teacher leaves little time for anything extra. Still, I have always enjoyed playing sports and staying active. I used to run and bike before returning to work full-time and even competed (in the loose sense of the word) in several triathlons. Now I enjoy watching my kids play sports!

Please know that my door is always open. You can reach me by leaving a voicemail on my phone or by sending me an email. I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.

It is my hope to instill in each student that I have the privilege to teach a sense of purpose in this world - not to gain the material things that can bring pleasure for just a moment - but for an eternal purpose of making a difference in the world. We can begin small, perhaps in our own community, and then, as we grow, branch out to see what we can offer the world and in turn be changed ourselves. I look forward to the journey!
