About Mr. Phillips

Jim Phillips joined the Woodmont faculty in 2011 as a member of the Social Studies department. He came to Woodmont with a number of years of experience in the business world. He spent several years as a sales representative and sales manager for the Business Imaging Systems Division of the Eastman Kodak Company. His first "teaching position" included training and development of new sales team members. Mr. Phillips left Kodak to join Canon USA as a District Sales Manager and, several years later, joined Bowe Bell + Howell as Software Sales Manager for the Southeast.

In 2007 Mr. Phillips was bitten by the "entrepreneurial bug." Tired of extensive travel and working for others, he founded MotionLab. The start-up company was focused on helping developmental athletes improve their skills through super-slow-motion video analysis. As It turns-out,helping young people be their very best at academic pursuits and athletics are the things Mr. Phillips finds most rewarding!

Mr. Phillips currently teaches Civics, IB History and IB / History of the Americas. He is a graduate of Wofford College with bachelor's degrees in both Government and Philosophy. Mr. Phillips gained his teaching certification through South Carolina's PACE program and received his AP U.S. History certification in 2014. He received his certification in IB History in July of 2016. Effective July of 2018, AP US Government is another field Mr. Phillips is certified to teach.

When they have time, Mr. Phillips and his wife Chris enjoy cruises, movies, great restaurants and travel. He also enjoys playing golf and watching almost any sporting event known to man!
