SYLLABUS

2023-2024 Student Syllabus

Description of the Program

Program Goal

For students to live, work, and participate in their community as independently as possible.

Program Description

This program was developed in order to meet the transitional needs of students with moderate intellectual disabilities.  The program is comprised of 6 main components:

Community Based Instruction (CBI)

Students will receive instruction that will help them to be more independent in the community after High School. Training includes going into the community and training on how to use different community venues such as finding items off of a list in a grocery store or ordering a meal at a sit-down, fast-food, and buffet restaurant. However due to the current state of the world, there will be no CBI trips until further notice.

Daily Living skills

Students will receive instruction that will help them to maintain a home and to take care of their personal needs. Students will work in our Home Living Lab on skills such as: washing dishes, washing clothes, cleaning a room, brushing their teeth and tying their shoes. Each student will have an individualized program in this area, specially designed to meet the student’s specific needs.

Functional Academics

Students will receive instruction on academic concepts that can be used in practical application in everyday life after the student graduates from High School. We will be using an online curriculum called “Unique”. The Unique program is specifically designed for high school students with special needs. The program is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.

Social Skills

Students will receive instruction that will help them to learn age appropriate social skills. Students will also learn social skills in their mainstream classes.

Recreation and leisure skills

Students will receive instruction that will help them to independently structure their time with activity when their time is not structured for them. This includes activities that involve other people such as board or card games. This also includes activities that does not involve other people such as doing a puzzle. This may include educational and non educational computer games.
