Shakespeare In Our Community

Each spring, we study Shakespeare as part of our curriculum. The experience of delving into Shakespeare's works is a journey of discovery for our students, as they tackle the language and themes of these important texts. Beyond being culturally enriched and exploring classics of Western literature and history, studying Shakespeare provides insights into major influences that have shaped the world of literature.

One essential aspect that we emphasize is that Shakespeare was not a novelist; he was a playwright. This means his works are meant to be experienced in performance, not just through reading. Witnessing a Shakespeare play come to life on stage can make a significant difference in a student's understanding and appreciation of the text. It bridges the gap between them and the language, making the experience more accessible and enjoyable.

In our community, there are ample opportunities for students to experience Shakespeare firsthand. Here are two prominent avenues:

The Warehouse Theatre:

The Upstate Shakespeare Festival:

We encourage our students and their families to take advantage of these community events to experience Shakespeare in a way that transcends the confines of the classroom. Witnessing the power of live performances and the creativity of talented actors brings Shakespeare's characters and stories to life, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
