What Does a Literacy Specialist do?

From the South Carolina Department of Education Web Page:

The Reading Coach/Literacy Coach will assist teachers in ensuring that all teachers are teachers of reading and implement effective literacy strategies. Coaches will work with all teachers (content teachers and elective areas) in the school he or she serves, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classrooms.

Adapted from the Greenville County School District Website:

Response to Intervention(RTI) in Greenville County School District integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement. With RTI, schools use data to identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, to monitor student progress, to provide evidence-based interventions and to adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness.
