Policies (Student Handbook)

  • Classroom Expectations:

  • Attendance:

    • Students are expected to attend live sessions with cameras on for the ENTIRE lesson and complete work to be counted as present for the day.

    • Students are expected to show up for their small group time daily.

  • Assignments:

    • Students are expected to complete and turn in daily assignments in their google classroom to receive credit for work

    • Students are expected to be live with cameras on to complete Major assessments in order for the assessment to be counted. Any assessment taken off camera will be resent and grade not counted.

    • Students are expected to take all assessments on their own without help.

    • Students will be allowed to request one major assessment grade to be redone. And will have 5 days to complete the opportunity from the initial due date.

    • Absent Work: All work missed during any absence must be completed and returned to the teacher within five (5) days of the student’s return to school. Students are responsible to get makeup work from their teacher(s). Provisions to make up school work missed during extended absences can be worked out with the teacher(s)/team concerned. After the original 5 days make up allowance for absence, the Late Work Procedures will apply.

    • Late Work: Work assigned is expected to be completed by the assigned due date. It remains the responsibility of the student to turn in work even if it is late. The student will have up to 5 days from the due date to complete late or missing work. Students will have 5 days to make up all missing major assignments, including projects, quizzes, and tests. Any missed assignments given near the end of a grading period need to be made up before the end of the grading period. Any work not turned in by the end of day 5 will have the Greenville County Schools’ grade floor applied (NHI), which equals a 50 as a grade. For each day the assignment is late, starting on the 6th day, 10 points (a letter grade), will be deducted from the final grade each day the assignment is late. Students/Parents will need to communicate with the teacher(s) when a late assignment is submitted. Teachers will handle unique situations on a case-by-case basis, and have the autonomy to determine whether they will accept work beyond the 5 days for credit.

  • Homework:

    • Students may not have homework in the virtual setting if they complete their work during their allotted time during the school day.

    • Homework shall include one or more of the three generally recognized types of homework:

      • Practice: reinforces newly acquired skills taught in class

      • Preparation: helps students prepare for upcoming lessons, activities, or tests

      • Extension: provides challenging, often long-term opportunities for enrichment that parallel class work.

    • Homework shall be carefully planned and explained to the students. Content and duration of homework shall be personalized to accommodate the age, grade, ability, and readiness of the students. Homework shall be assigned with awareness of the home resources available to the student and the family and alternative options offered, where necessary. Since involvement in extracurricular activities is encouraged and valued, homework assignments that are lengthy shall be scheduled as far in advance as possible.

  • Inclement Weather:

    • Inclement Weather should not interrupt virtual learning, unless there are Internet/Power outages in your area. Please have the student log in to classes as usual if they have Internet and power. If no one is there, please assume the teacher does not have Internet or power. Should the weather cause a disruption, such as power outages or loss of internet connection, please contact the teacher or grade-level administrator. This is subject to change according to any district decisions.

    • Excuses for these types of issues should be sent to virtualattendanceelementary@greenville.k12.sc.us
