Mrs. Kelley Knotts

6th Grade Science Teacher

2017-2018

I grew up in Irmo, South Carolina. I attended the schools in Lexington School District Five. At Irmo Middle School I had a science teacher that used many ways to teach science. She used hands-on activities, labs, question and answer sessions, and the textbook to teach us about various science concepts. She inspired me to want to be a science teacher. After graduating from Irmo High School I attended Winthrop University from 1979-1983. In 1983 I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I later received my Middle Level Science certification.

This year will be my 34th year of teaching. I’ve taught 4th – 7th grades. Most of my experience has been in the 5th and 6th grades. Throughout the years I’ve taught all subjects. I’ve taught in Georgia, on a Marine Corps Base in North Carolina, and in South Carolina. For the last fifteen years I've taught 6th grade science. I continue my education by attending classes to learn information about new content, academic strategies, student behavior strategies, and better ways to integrate technology in my classroom.

I live in the Greer area. My wonderful husband’s name is Jeff. We like to spend time at the lake, work in the yard and snow ski. I don’t ski as well as he does, but I’m still learning! I have two beautiful daughters, Katie and Emily. I also have two great stepchildren, Michael and Haylee. You could call us a "house divided". My stepchildren graduated from Clemson and are avid Clemson fans. Both of my daughters graduated from USC and are avid USC fans. My husband and I are also avid USC fans! We all love college football!

I'm very excited about teaching at Beck Academy! My number one goal is for your child to succeed in my science class. Please feel free to contact me by email, phone or note.
