Success Strategies

"Success Strategies" for HHS Virtual Students:

Strategy #1: Go to bed early, wakeup at the same time everyday.

Why is this important?: During face to face school, students have set routines that they follow. It is important for Virtual Students to establish these same routines at home so that they can be successful. If students are staying up late, sleeping in, and skipping breakfast... then they won't be at their best during their school day.

Strategy #2: Eat breakfast, stay hydrated, and eat healthy snacks during the day.

Why is this important?: Healthy eating and hydration is scientifically proven to improve concentration, focus, and energy in humans...all of which are essential to helping students be successful in school. Each morning, be sure to eat a healthy breakfast and avoid unnecessary sugar (because sugar makes people sleepy). Keep a water bottle close by as well to make sure you stay hydrated, and eat healthy snacks (like fruit and nuts).

Strategy #3: Find a PRODUCTIVE space to work...and eliminate distractions.

Why is this important?: Although it may be more comfortable to lay in your bed while completing school work, there are lots of distractions that make learning difficult in that environment. It is important to find a space where you can sit up, focus, and complete your schoolwork to the best of your ability. Eliminating outside distractions (like phones, music, television, etc.) will also help you stay on task and succeed!

Strategy #4: Login to ALL Google Meet live sessions (NOT just the Tuesday "required" sessions!)

Why is this important?: Although students are only required to attend every live sessions on Tuesdays, our teachers are live on Google Meet during class time Monday through Thursday. When kids login to these sessions, they get more live interaction with their teacher and this will help them succeed in their classes!

Strategy #5: Follow the bell schedule.

Why is this important?: Each student has a bell schedule broken up into 50 minute classes. In order to stay organized, it is recommended that students complete the assignments for each of their classes during their assigned class time. This way, they know how long they have to complete each assignment, and if they have any questions they can log into Google Meet to ask their teacher a question in a live session.

Strategy #6: Communicate daily with your teachers.

Why is this important?: Just like in Face to Face school, our teachers are here to help our students succeed. Actively communicating with your teacher through live sessions, Google Classroom messages, emails, or phone calls is the best way to take advantage of your teacher's expertise. Teachers want to help you...so ask for help!

Strategy #7: Take active brain breaks.

Why is this important?: When you have a few minutes to take a break from your school work, try to do something active that will keep you energized (like going outside, doing pushups, or engaging in other physical activities). Active breaks will keep your body and mind fresh during the school day.
