Policies and Procedures
Classroom Policies
Restroom Breaks
Restroom breaks will not be given during the first ten minutes of class (new school-wide policy).
Restroom breaks should be taken during class change. If you need to use the restroom during class, wait until instruction is over and then ask Mrs. Florian if you may go.
After you have asked and received permission, create a SmartPass.
Restroom breaks should last not more than 7 minutes.
Abuse of restroom privileges and/or extended time out of the classroom will result in disciplinary action.
Cell phone (Smart watch) use in class
Cell phones should be silenced and placed in the students book bag unless Mrs. Florian has given permission to use them.
Texting on Smart watches during No Cell Phone time will be treated as having the cell phone out and in use.
Smart watches should be stored in the bookbag if they become a distraction.
Students who wish to listen to music during allowed times should have a playlist already created. Manually changing songs each time one ends is a distraction and will result in the loss of cell phone privilege.
Students listening to music must have earbuds and should be the only ones who can hear the music.
Chromebooks
Please keep your chromebooks charged!
Be sure to keep your charger in your bookbag if you are often in need of it!
There are limited plugs in the room and only a few seats have access to them. Do not expect to be able to move your seat to access an outlet.
Students who make a habit out of coming to class without a charged chromebook will face disciplinary action.
Classroom Procedures
Entering the classroom
Check the Promethean Board for daily instructions and begin following them.
Be in your seat, with your cell phone put away, working on the item(s) listed on the Promethean Board when the tardy bell rings.
Tardies
If you are not in the classroom when the bell rings you will be required to go to the nearest tardy station and get a pass to enter the classroom (new school-wide policy).
Please do not drop your things off in the room and then go to the restroom. You will still be marked tardy if you’re not in the room when the bell rings and will be required to get a tardy pass (new school-wide policy).
After an absence
Review the lesson plan and/or Google Classroom to see what you missed.
Check with a trusted student or Mrs. Florian if you need more information on what work to do.
Make-up work should be turned into the Make-up work basket in the back of the room.
See the make-up work policy in the syllabus for due dates on make-up work.
Moving around the room
During lectures and discussions, always ask permission before leaving your seat.
During group work and other activities, wait until Mrs. Florian finishes giving instructions before moving around the room.
Book bags
Please make sure your book bags are not in the aisle between rows.
Bags should be stored underneath the seat or in the back of the room once all classroom supplies are removed.
Students should not be out of their seat during instruction to retrieve things from their book bag during instruction.
Getting your attention
If you see Mrs. Florian with her hand raised, you should immediately stop talking and raise your hand to indicate that you are paying attention.
If you hear a bell, or an announcement over the intercom, you should immediately stop talking and pay attention.
Class dismissal
Remain in your seat or at your desk until the bell rings.
Do not line up or crowd around the door, this is a safety issue.
Do not start packing up until Mrs. Florian says it’s time.
Asking questions
Questions related to the topic are welcome and encouraged!
Off-topic questions should be saved for after instruction or during breaks.
Turning in paper assignments
All papers should always include your name, the date, and the block number.
Assignments will be picked up by Mrs. Florian or placed in the basket by the door as you exit the room.
Turning in assignments on Google Classroom
Please be sure that you have uploaded all documents into the assignment before submitting.
Check the assignment details for the due date and time. Some assignments will be due at the end of class, some will be due by 11:59 pm on the due date.
You must actually submit the assignment for it to be accepted as complete.
Discussing grades or any personal issue
Find me before or after class or EVEN BETTER, make an appointment with me before or after school. I want to be able to give you my full attention!
