Class Rules

  1. Be kind, not only to me, but to every person in the classroom. Don't interrupt while I am talking or while another student is addressing me or the class. When it is appropriate to talk to other students, do so at a volume that is not disruptive to others trying to think, work, or get help. Also, make sure the room is clean before you leave. We need to respect those who use the room later in the day as well.

  2. Be honest. Many of your assessments will be project-based. While it may be allowable to help each other at times, your final project submissions must reflect your own understanding of the course content. On exams and other individual assignments, communication (talking, notes, gestures, peaking at the computer next to you, etc.) may be considered cheating and result in a zero for that assignment in addition to further disciplinary action.

  3. Try. Come prepared to learn every day. Get to class on time, bring all necessary materials, and bring a positive attitude and desire to succeed. Focus on the lesson, and if you don't understand, ask questions. If you get stuck, don’t quit working until you get help from me. Instead, you should reread notes, search the web for solutions, or ask a classmate. Also, I expect you to try for the entire period. Do not pack up or quit working until the bell rings and I dismiss you.

Of course, you must also follow the District’s Student Behavior Code and school rules at all times. If you choose not to follow these rules, detention may be assigned, parents may be contacted, and a discipline referral may be written.

Computer Use

At the beginning of class, you should log into your computer, check Google Classroom to read the assignment, and begin working.

You are expected to restrict your computer use to that which is directly relevant to your assignments. You may under no circumstances use or install applications that have not been approved by the District. This means that games stored in your student directories or flash drives are never permitted. If you suspect or find unauthorized applications installed on your computer, please let me know so that I can remove them.

At the end of class, it is important that you log out of the computer. The last class of the day should also shut down the computers and turn off the monitors.

You must also obey the School District of Greenville County School’s Acceptable Use Policy for school Computers at all times.

Absences and Make-up Work

If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to get and make up any assignments missed. Please look at individual course pages to see additional details about how late work will be handled.

Use of Personal Electronic Devices

Phone use will only be permitted when used for educational purpose related to this class. For example, you may want to take pictures of notes on the board, share notes with other students, or watch video tutorials while you work. Phone use for personal reasons must be restricted to time between classes.

Headphones may not be worn in class unless you are using them to listen to video instruction or working on a project that contains sound effects and you would like to minimize disruption to others. Anytime headphones are worn, volume must be kept at a reasonable level so that you can always hear and respond to someone that is speaking to you in a normal speaking voice. Listening to music or watching videos for entertainment while you work is not permitted.

Hall Passes

At no time will you be allowed to leave the room without a hall pass. If you need a pass for personal reasons (restroom, locker, etc.), I will usually be willing to write you a pass. You must be in the class when the bell rings. Except in emergency situations, no more than one student will be allowed out of the room at one time.
