Homework and Assessments
Most days homework will only be given if the student does not complete their work in class or needs something to assist with practicing what we covered that day.. There may be exceptions the night of school functions and for next day field trips. There will also be times where students will be expected to work on homework/projects over the weekend. Student will ALWAYS need to read at least 20 minutes EVERY night. I also need all students to work on knowing their multiplications tables by heart. Some tricks work but at this level we should all know our basic multiplication and it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to succeed in Math in the 4th grade!
Reading - read 20 minutes
Math - Students REALLY NEED to do multiplication flash cards for at least 10 minutes
EVERY night

Parents, if you have a device at home with access to the internet and would like your student to do a little bit more, they can access Dreambox for Math and LEXIA for Reading to help build those skills. They are both EASILY found on their backpack.
What you should expect every week:
You should see Math work that did not get completed in class 2 or 3 days a week.
You will see an index card with vocabulary words every Tuesday unless they are doing a Reading/Writing project. You will know about those by checking the first page of our class website.
They will usually have at least one Reading worksheet a week.
There are Reading tests every Friday. They need to study the vocabulary and re-read the passage for the week. They are supposed to read 20 minutes a night anyway.
The truth of the matter is, we HAVE to have YOUR help for our students to succeed. If you do not make sure they are doing their part at home, their chances of success here at school are so much lower.

PLEASE DO NOT JUST SHOW UP AT SCHOOL AND EXPECT A CONFERENCE. WITHOUT SETTING A CONFERENCE AHEAD OF TIME I WILL ALMOST ALWAYS BE UNAVAILABLE.
