About Me

Teaching:

I have a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Washington, 20 years research experience, and over ten years experience teaching courses covering a range of topics from biology, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, immunology, and pathogenesis to a diversity of students. Although many years of my experience was in higher education, I had the unique opportunity to teach high school students through the Greenville County Schools GATE program and to share with them my enthusiasm for the sciences. I believe teaching at any level requires the ability to engage students, facilitate a student-centered learning environment and to create opportunities for students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. I have taught at Eastside High School and for the Greenville County Virtual High School Program, but this is my second year teaching at Fountain Inn High School.  Go Fury! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your student. It's going to be a great year!

Personal:

My family and I are originally from Seattle, WA, but love living in Greenville, SC and truly consider this home now.  Although we miss the mountains, we do not miss the rain! My husband and I have two high school boys - a sophomore and a senior.  In my free time, I love to exercise, play games, read and travel.  We also have two goofy spoiled dogs from the Greenville Humane Society.
