Expectations

Expectation by definition is a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future. I pride myself and my classroom as a very professional and hard working environment.

With that being said, the following are my rules and standards in my classroom:

  • Respect. By far the most important rule in the book no matter where you are. I will always respect you and you will respect myself and my classroom. Respect is the one thing in life that can get you whatever you want no matter what you already have, or do not have. You will learn the importance of showing respect to your elders, your bosses, your peers, and one day your employees.

  • Dress Code. Uniformity is so imperative when talking about a successful workforce. We will dress out in our uniforms for labs and they are worth 25 points per item. Coat, Pants, Hat, Apron. You will be in charge of keeping it neat, clean, and you are responsible for each item.

  • Safety and Sanitation. We are a DHEC certified kitchen and we will stay that way. Cleaning is first and last thing we do every single day. Realize that if you absolutely hate to clean then you will absolutely hate this class.

  • Time Management. Using your time wisely in my class is essential. As part of the Food and Beverage industry, you will always be held accountable for how you manage your time and if you can work efficiently. Worry not, for I will always push you to work smarter and not harder, which in return will make you a productive, quick, and honed culinarian.

  • Professionalism. This industry needs leaders and not followers. I will train you to learn and effectively use your skills, but at the end of the day you are working to become leaders. Being a professional is a characteristic that is earned through years and years of dedication and hard work.

  • Cell Phone Use. I understand the day and age we are in. I know that the cell phone is typically the first thing to locate when you wake up and the last thing that you touch before you go to sleep. They are an amazing tool and basically has every bit of tangible information that you need. We actually use our phones in this class for numerous things. Know this, we will not abuse the use of your cell phone in class or the lab. During instruction, demonstration, and production, you will RESPECT and show Professionalism by not being on your phone. We have a class Instagram and I ask that you take pictures of all your work for your professional portfolio that you start building in this class.

I thank you all in advance for knowing and following my expectations. I set them very high and I find through my years of teaching that it is the sole reason for all of our success in this class. Come ready to work, stay hungry to learn, and be the professional in all aspects of your life because you will be just that here in Culinary Arts Management.

It is not technically a rule, but I do hope that you will have a blast and overall enjoy this class!
