Library Mission Statement

The mission of the Greenville High Senior Academy Library is to foster a learning community that encourages reading and creates lifelong learners who are effective and ethical users and creators of information and resources.

Library Vision Statement

The GHSA Library strives to be a center of collaborative learning where students not only become lifelong learners and readers, but also creators, innovators, and future seekers. This will be accomplished by collaborating with teachers, developing a collection that is representative of the community, and implementing literacy instruction for students.

Hours

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm

Collaboration

The librarians are here to help you with planning and co-teaching, within the classroom or in the media center, lessons covering reference, research, technology, and literacy.  Please contact Lindsay Beaman or Amy Cawthon if you are interested in discussing a lesson or collaborating.

 Book Check Out (students)

Students can check out up to five books at a time and the check out time is three weeks.  You can renew as many times as you would like as long as the book is not on hold by another student.  You can submit book suggestions for the library to buy on the Request a Book tab.

Library Use (Classes)

The media center may be reserved for class use.  Requests should be made at least one day in advance. Teachers may reserve up to three consecutive days. Teachers must accompany students and remain with classes.  Substitutes are not permitted to bring classes to the library without prior approval.  You can view the library schedule on the library website to see available dates.  If you are interested in reserving the library for a class visit, please contact Lindsay or Amy, to be added to the schedule. Reservations should be made well in advance to prevent conflicts and ensure availability.

Library Use (Before and After School)

The Library may be reserved for before or after school use by contacting library staff via email.  Before 8:45, please note that other students will be in the library for printing, studying, using computers, and other library items.

Library passes are required during all class periods.  No student will be allowed in the library without a pass and ID. Passes to the library during a student’s lunch period may be obtained prior to lunch from a teacher or the library staff.

Students must follow these procedures to use the library during instructional time:

IDs are required to check out materials. Books are due back in three weeks (may be renewed as long as not on hold by another student).

We do not charge late fees, but if a book is lost or stolen, the student is responsible for paying the replacement cost.

Students will receive overdue library material/debt reminders regularly. Overdue/debt notices will be printed and distributed the last week of each grading period. Students will not be denied access to library materials if they owe fees for library materials.

Library Programs

Students are encouraged to participate in Media Center programs such as book clubs, reading program promotions, Teen Read Week, Summer Reading and other library sponsored events and programs.  These reading programs can be found on the library website, or you can check with the library for more info.
