Grades

Grades are standards-based for all related arts classes at the elementary level. Checklists, observations and rubrics may be used to determine if the student has MET the standards taught during the 9 weeks or if the student is still PROGRESSING toward meeting the standard. Grades will be recorded as follows:

M = Students who meet standards

P = Students who are progressing towards meeting standards

Homework Policy

Homework is rarely given in art class. However, when it is given, it will not affect the grade if it is not completed. Homework usually includes practicing, finding ideas, or collecting materials. The child will only be assessed on what he or she does in class. If homework is given, it is only meant to help the child prepare for any skills/assessments done in class.

Classroom Management Plan

Class Rules

Attitude is a choice... be positive!

Raise your hand to ask or tell.

Try your best!

Immediately follow directions.

Stay quiet and focused.

Take responsibility - clean up!

Individual Behavioral Plan

If an individual student breaks a rule, he/she will receive 2 spoken warnings. If the offense continues after two warnings, Mrs. Brendle will discuss the behavior with the child's teacher. If the behavior continues in a following class, parent contact will be made via a note that will be sent home to be signed. If the student is in 3rd-5th grade, a written assignment will accompany the note.  If the note (and written assignment for older students) is not returned to Mrs. Brendle within three school days, the child will be referred to Miss Gibson or Mr. Staggs.

Group Behavior Plan

If the majority of the class is unruly, the teacher will not raise his/her voice, she will simply say "SALAMI," which stands for "Stop And Look At Me Immediately." When students hear this, they know to stop talking, working, and/or moving immediately. If SALAMI has to be used more than twice in once class period, the class will receive Silent Art for a portion of the class and Mrs. Brendle will discuss the class behavior with their teacher. Should problems continue in future classes, Silent Art may be extended to the full class period. If behavior becomes habitual, students will receive a new seating chart. Planned projects may be altered or changed at any point if class behavior dictates the necessity.
