Parent Page

Welcome! I hope this page will provide the information that will help you throughout the school year. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email or call me. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!

This year our class will be doing a Class Economy System. Please read below to find out how it works.

Beginning of Year:

Students will apply for the class jobs they find interest in. They will officially get hired for their first job of the year and get paid HALF of their first payment to start off. After two weeks of doing their class job, they will get paid the other half and be given a new class job. Every Friday they get a chance to use their class cash earnings for a prize. Students can decide to save their money and not shop, if desired. Students will be required to always keep $5 in their bank accounts (mesh zip baggies) towards savings.

How it Works:

Every two weeks students will get paid for their previous class job and be given a new class job. Each day students can earn class cash (earnings for positive behaviors) or be given a fine (consequence for negative behaviors).

Students may receive fines such as:

Rent per month (paid the first day of the month)

Sitting in the tent (any time other than reading time)

*Additional fines may occur at the teacher's discretion*

Students may earn class cash earnings such as:

Payment for class jobs every two weeks

Representing STAR behavior at any time in the day

Getting a compliment from another faculty member

Keeping your class area clean

*Additional earnings may occur at the teacher's discretion*

Class Economy is meant to be used as an organizational tool to keep track of student behavior, give students a sense of ownership and responsibility through class jobs, as well as learn life-long money skills.

If a student is having a rough day or making poor choices, the student will get 1 verbal warning. If the behavior continues, the student will receive silent lunch. If this behavior still continues, the student will be given a think sheet & possible call home. The student will fill out a think sheet during the beginning of recess (delayed start), and I will contact the parent(s) if I feel that is needed. For any minor behavior (silent lunch), parent will not be contacted. For any major behavior (multiple occurrences, think sheet, etc.), a parent(s) and/or administrator may need to get involved.

Any time a negative behavior occurs, I will have a private conversation to help the student understand what happened, why they made the choice they did, and what they can do next time instead.  If the inappropriate behavior continues and a think sheet and contact home has already occurred, the student will receive a Classroom Discipline Report (CDR).  All CDRs will be given by the teacher in the classroom and sent home to the parent (more information about CDRs below).

Any time a student goes above and beyond, I will make sure to celebrate the student (earning class cash) and let them know why they are being rewarded.

Consequences

We discourage inappropriate behavior in our school and classrooms.  The following guidelines will be followed for discouraging inappropriate behaviors:

Three Classroom Discipline Reports that occur over the course of 45 days or one severe offense will result in an office referral.  All office referrals will be sent to the office to be seen by the assistant principal or principal and consequences will be administered by the assistant principal or the principal.

After two office referrals, a conference with administration, teacher and parents is required.

Parent Notes- All notes must have the following information: date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature.

Changes in Transportation- If you wish for your child's transportation to be changed for a particular day, please send in a written note with the correct date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature. If there is no written note received, then your child will go home via his/her usual method of transportation.

Communication & Class Binders- You will receive your child's weekly work/grades/handouts in their communication binder. Please return the binder on the following day your child is present in class. All parent notes, forms, changes in transportation, etc. should be sent in this binder. This binder will also hold their classwork, notes, study guides, etc.

Early Dismissals- Please send a note in the morning if you plan to pick your child up early. Check in at the office to sign your child out and the office staff will call for your child to meet you there. There will be no early dismissals after 1:45 p.m. Your child must be present for at least 3.25 hours of instructional time to receive credit for the day.

Dress Code- Students are encouraged to wear comfortable, clean clothing which is suited for the weather.  Shoes should be worn at all times.  Caps and hats may not be worn in the building.  Please make sure that all shirts or tops meet the waist band.  Stomachs should be covered at all times.  If children are sent to school in shorts, they should be long enough to completely cover the top of the legs to within two to three inches of the knee.  The primary objective of Greenville County Schools (GCS) is to provide a World-Class instructional program and learning opportunity for every student. The personal appearance of every student is an important component of establishing a safe environment for optimal learning and respect for one another. Students are expected to dress in an appropriate manner while on school district property or representing the school. Personal appearance shall be such that it does not disrupt student work or school order, become distracting to other students, or violate health and safety guidelines.

Flip-flops (shower-type shoes) are not permitted.  No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, halter-tops, or vests without shirts will be permitted. Shoulder straps have to be a minimum of l inch wide. No see-through or mesh garments may be worn.
