About Mr. Cox

Welcome to my site! My name is Ethan Cox, and I am in my ninth year teaching science. I grew up on the west side of Spartanburg, and I went to James F. Byrnes High School. After high school, I attended Clemson University. I graduated from Clemson University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Natural Resources. After my undergraduate degree, I went straight into graduate school for a Master of Science degree in Plant and Environmental Sciences. During graduate school, I completed research on the removal of radioactive iodine isotopes from groundwater using common soil minerals such as alumina and kaolinite. After I finished my Masters in 2013, I realized that research is not where I wanted to be, and I chose to change career paths and become a teacher! I have enjoyed every minute, so I know that I made the right decision.

This is my ninth year of teaching. I have taught everything from biology to environmental science to physical science. One of my biggest passions is to encourage students to use science to think about the world around them in a new way! I am also the AP Environmental Science Teacher (APES). I have an extremely high passage rate on the Advanced Placement Environmental Science Exam (~80%), and if you're interested in environmental science, then you should take my class! It won't be easy, but you'll definitely come out knowing a ton about the world around you and ways that you can make the world a better place.

I recently got married to my beautiful wife Xaymara Correa Cruz. Some of you may recognize her name as a former Spanish teacher at Eastside High School. We got married in 2021. We are extremely happy and can't wait to see what the future holds for us. She is also a substitute teacher now at Eastside as well as around the school district.

I am one of the cross country coaches, and I am extremely excited about this upcoming season. If you're interested in running, please come talk to me! I also enjoy running, hiking, being outdoors, watching TV, being with friends and family, and playing frisbee with my chocolate lab, Beau. Beau is eight years old, but he weighs 110 pounds! Beau enjoys swimming, catching frisbee, and chewing up my shoes.
