Classwork Policy

Academic Honor Code

Academic honesty, integrity, and upstanding behavior are essential to the existence and growth of any academic community. Without maintaining high standards of honesty and conduct, the reputation of the school and the student are compromised. Students must understand that any issues concerning plagiarism or cheating will result in the consequences stated below. Plagiarism is the representation of another’s words or ideas as your own, including citing any source (including the internet) without giving proper acknowledgement. Cheating is the giving or receiving of unauthorized assistance on any assessment. The TR faculty opposes plagiarism and cheating for several reasons:

  • Cheating allows a student to receive the same or better grades than students who have put in the time and effort to master the material. Dishonestly inflated grades ultimately and unfairly raise the cheater’s grade point average and class rank, simultaneously lowering the rank of students who study.

  • Not only does cheating misrepresent a student’s mastery of the subject to parents and colleges, it also distorts the teacher’s perception of curriculum effectiveness and class progress.

  • High School age students should be mature enough to face a low grade when they have earned it. Plagiarism and cheating violations will be handled in accordance with the School District of Greenville County’s code of conduct policy. The School District of Greenville County expects students to maintain integrity in all school work and to refrain from any action that would bring dishonor to themselves or their schools. Consequences may include parent notification, loss of credit for the assessment, counseling by faculty, and disciplinary measures found in the Greenville County School’s code of conduct.

Late Work Policy

  • There is a 30% reduction in late work for CP classes. Deadline for late work is 5 days from the due date.

Procedures for Makeup Work

  • Provision for make- up of school work missed during lawful absences shall be worked out with the teacher(s) concerned at the earliest time possible, but should not exceed five (5) school days after the student returns to school.

  • Make up of school work missed during unlawful absences may be approved only with permission of the principal after consultation with the teacher(s) concerned.

  • These Procedures for Make-up Work apply to all schools in the district.

Remediation Procedures for Major Grades

  • Students who wish to retake 2 major grades in a grading quarter will be given a remediation and an opportunity to retake the major grade.

  • Once the remediation assignment is completed the student will be given an opportunity to replace the major grade by retaking the major grade. The higher of the two grades will be taken.

  • Quizzes are not retaken but students who score below a 70 will complete remediation in order to replace the quiz grade with a 70.

  • All major grade retries will be taken during FLEX period and not during class. Any retakes prior or after school will have to be scheduled with Mr. Dunaway in order to arrange a pass. Prior to class is from 8:00am to 8:30am and after school is 3:45pm to 4:15pm. Additionally, students may schedule those times for extended review or tutoring help.

  • If remediation and major grade are not completed before the next major grade, then the student loses the opportunity to retake the assignment.

NO EXTRA CREDIT!

  • Extra credit is point less when I give remediation and retakes.
