Announcements

Hello Parents and Students,

As we start the second semester, I wanted to make you aware of everything we have going on. First of all, please visit the band website. It is always full of information. The website is woodmontband.com. We also have a Facebook page. The site is "The Official Woodmont Band" page. You must request to join as it is a closed group. Another great source is come to our booster club meetings which are held the first Thursday of every month 6:30 pm in the band room at Woodmont High School.

Just a few additional notes:

  • For the next two weeks, the students are working on chamber music. What is chamber music? In the old days, people were entertained by traveling musicians that performed in homes. There were no huge auditoriums and such back in the old days. The musicians performed in small groups so they could fit in the homes. The students will be in a small group (chamber group) learning individual parts. Please contact me if you have any questions. 355-8670
  • We have Charleston Music Festival rehearsals on April 1 and April 8. The rehearsals will be 4 until 5:30 pm.

Upcoming Events:

  • February 23 is a HUGE day for us. We will be hosting a contest with 57 units and we need help from everyone. Please go to our band website for more details on how you can help.

This is a performance based class. You will be graded on the following criteria.

Daily participation – This includes participating, having materials, and being prepared for class

Rehearsals – attending rehearsals are essential for the success of the program and for your personal success. This is a major grade.

Performances – missing a performance is detrimental to the organization. This is a major grade.

Materials that you must have for this class.

A black binder – tab dividers (at least five)

Wind players – reeds, valve oil, and any necessary equipment for your instrument

Percussion – stick bag (labeled with your name) sticks, mallets, etc.

A pencil is a must at every rehearsal

The band room will become your home away from home. It is your responsibility to keep your locker and our band room clean. If I see your locker is full of “stuff”, it will be removed. If you see trash or anything that doesn’t belong in our room, pick it up.

Band parent meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at 6:30pm. We need all parents to attend regardless of the student’s status in the band program.
