Fire Fighter Training Program

Parents,

Your son or daughter has chosen a course to become a part of the Fire Service. Specifically they have selected to train to become a fire fighter. Firefighting is one the oldest and most noble fields in the country today.

There is a high demand for professionally trained men and women with opportunities in many career sectors. Some of these include the public sector and private business sector. Public sector opportunities for fire fighters are:

· municipal, airport,

· forestry,

· military,

· local fire codes enforcement officials,

· arson and fire investigators.

Private sector opportunities for fire fighters are:

· Industrial fire brigade members

· Fire engineers in design of protection systems i.e. fire sprinklers etc.

· Fire Investigations for insurance industries and insurance claims

· Work as a private contractor for Insurance companies

To successfully complete this program the student has many responsibilities. Along with school district rules, Donaldson Center rules there are class rules as well.

Students,

Here at DCC and as firefighters are demanded to do, it is your responsibility to behave professionally. When you join this program you have also joined a division of the Boy Scouts of America known as Fire Explorers. You will be a part of an actual fire department that also demands you be professional. Your explorer post will issue you tee shirts with a fire department logo. You are then known as “Behind the Badge”. You will be a single representation of your Explorer post and the fire department that sponsors it.

In conclusion it will take great effort on the part of the student and the parents to make this a success. We only have two school years to complete the certification process to become a firefighter. (See course description). This will require class time, practical and physical drill time, field trips to fire departments, the South Carolina Fire Academy and others as time and opportunity arises. HOMEWORK will be a must to stay on schedule.

Students, if you bring personal belongings to class, specifically computers, tablets, cell phones, or any other items it is both the school policy and class policy they are YOUR SOLE responsibility to prevent damage or loss. The school and your instructor will make every effort to recover any lost property however the school or your instructor will NOT be responsible for the replace of your lost item(s). You will also be issued an individual text book. It too is your responsibility to keep up with this book. While it is not impossible it is very difficult to successfully complete this program without your personal copy.

With all of these things being said, I welcome you to Donaldson Career Center Fire Training program and to the call of becoming a professionally trained fire fighter. As your instructor I will strive to have each student achieve the very best they are capable of accomplishing as a firefighter.
