Activities:
Make salt dough together (recipe linked here & included on next page).
Read a story & ask your child to tell you what happened at the beginning, middle, & end.
Label household items using pictures & words.
Write your first & last name. Circle the first letter in both names.
Point out signs in your environment & read them together (e.g. stop sign, McDonald’s sign, etc.).
Find the letters in your name in a newspaper or favorite book.
Look at a clock or calendar & point to numbers you know.
Look at pictures in a book & guess what is happening, then read the story together to see if you were right.
Play a game of Hide & Seek.
Tell what rhymes with the following words: cat, mop, ring, pan.
Use numeral cards included in your PreK eLearning packet or write numbers 1-10 on paper then make a group of objects for each number, use objects in your home such as spoons, rocks, etc.
Count the number of traffic lights you see when you are in the car.
Play Red Light, Green Light.
Make an ABC book. On each page write the letter & draw a picture of something that begins with that letter.
Group several toys by commonalities (e.g. color, size, use, etc.).
Practice your phone number & address.
Dance to your favorite music.
Use play-doh or salt dough to make the letters of the alphabet and numbers 1-10.
Make your own instruments using household items.
Draw a picture of what you want to be when you grow up.
Use dolls, action figures, stuffed animals, or other toys to act out a story.
Take a walk outside & play I Spy.
Hop on one leg ten times then hop on the other leg ten times.
Sort a collection of coins by size then talk about which is bigger/biggest & smaller/smallest.
Play Which Is Bigger? or What Comes Next? using numbers 1-10.
Draw a picture of everyone who lives in your house. Cut out the pictures & use them in a puppet show.
Find objects in your house that start with the same letter as each family member’s name.
Write a letter to a friend or family member.
Name or draw a fruit or vegetable for each color of the rainbow.
Count the mirrors/doors/windows in your home.
Fill a glass with ice cubes in the morning. Check it in the afternoon & describe what happened.
Name the opposites for the following: big, up, on, in, out.
Practice tying your shoes.
Collect rocks then use paint or markers to turn them into characters to use to tell a story.
Salt Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup salt
2 cups of flour
¾ cup of water
Directions:
In a large bowl mix salt and flour together.
Gradually stir in water. Mix well until it forms a doughy consistency.
Turn the dough onto the bench and knead with your hands until smooth and combined.
Make your creations using the salt dough.
Place the salt dough creations into the oven at 250℉. The amount of time needed to bake depends on the size and thickness of the salt dough creations (approximately 2 hours).
Tips & Ideas:
Store your salt dough in an airtight container as it keeps well for a few days.
You can paint your creations with acrylic paints and seal with varnish or polyurethane spray.
Salt dough can also be air dried and is an alternative to oven drying.
Involve the kids in making the salt dough as this encourages and promotes so many learning opportunities!
