GCSD Student Calendar 2017-18

Ways to help your child -

  • Read! Please encourage your child to read daily. Use the Lexile information to help your child select "just right" books. Reading books on a lower Lexile level can help children build confidence and fluency. Also, reading a book on a more challenging level with your child can help build vocabulary.
  • Practice Math Facts - Help your child practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts anytime during the day. Being able to recall facts quickly and accurately is crucial for your child to be successful in math.

Class Wish List -

We always appreciate items from our wish list!

  • White card stock paper
  • Colored card stock paper
  • Battleship games - to be used in math
  • Staples gift cards for color copies and project supplies
  • Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift cards for curriculum related books

Monarch Elementary 3rd Grade Block Behavior Management System

Overview

This year we will be implementing and enforcing the block behavior management in conjunction with the school-wide expectations. This behavior management policy consists of rewards and consequences based on the behavior of the student.

Students are given a behavior block sheet each month. The block sheet is to be kept in the front of the binder at all times. Behavior is tracked daily with 4 blocks per day. If a block is “taken”, the teacher will write a brief explanation in the block and initial it. Parents are asked to sign the block sheet at the end of each week and return it with the student on Mondays. The signed block sheets will remain on file in the classroom for conferences and reflection.

Rewards

Every Friday afternoon, your child will have the chance to participate in “Monarch Mentors”. During this time, your child will be mentoring a younger student. This may include buddy reading, math games, interactive activities, etc. Only students who have completed all assignments and that have lost no more than 5 blocks for the week may participate in “Monarch Mentors”. Students not participating in “Monarch Mentors” will complete a think time behavior reflection and/or incomplete assignments. They will be supervised by the teacher during this time. Additional positive reinforcements may be given within classrooms throughout the week.

Consequences

1st block – 5 minutes of isolated recess

2nd block – silent lunch and 5 minutes of isolated recess

3rd block – silent lunch and 10 minutes of isolated recess

4th block – silent lunch, 10 minutes of isolated recess, and complete a think time behavior reflection

Per district policy, extreme behaviors warrant an automatic referral to the office.

Weekly Folders –

On Fridays, students will take home their weekly work folder. On the left section is a parent signature form. Please sign the parent form and write any comments. Papers in the right section of the folder should be removed and discussed with your student. Papers that need to be returned for our portfolios are marked “please sign and return”. Folders should be returned on Mondays.
