Mission, Beliefs, Goals

Mission The mission of speech-language services is to help students communicate in a manner that positively impacts their productive participation in the learning environment, home, local community and global environment.

Beliefs

  • All students can communicate.
  • Parent involvement supports enhanced communication.
  • Students should have equal access to speech services.
  • Students have the responsibility to be active communicators.
  • The Individual Education Plan (IEP) process should meet the needs of each student.
  • Speech-language experiences should assist students in learning to communicate effectively, to solve problems competently, to think critically and creatively, and to act responsibly.
  • Developing good speech and language skills is the shared responsibility of home, school, and community.

Goals

  • To accurately and consistently identify students with speech and language problems.
  • To educate parents, teachers and the community about speech and language
  • To provide continuing education and training so that Speech-Language Pathologists will be knowledgeable about current trends and professional issues in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • To provide free appropriate speech and language services to students with identified communication problems.
  • To support students enrolled in the speech-language program in meeting grade level curriculum standards in the classroom.
  • To improve all students' self-esteem and help foster confidence in their communication skills.
