The Inn Place to Learn

The Fountain Inn Elementary School Counselors, in partnership with our staff, parents, and community, will provide our students with a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that will equip our students with  the skills they need to be responsible, successful leaders in their communities.

Elementary School Counseling Program Developmental Guidance Model

All programs offered to the students will be developmentally appropriate.  At the elementary level, the school counseling program promotes successful achievement by assisting students in learning the skills and attitudes that focus on decision-making, skill development, awareness and exploration of future educational and occupational possibilities.  The program also stresses core character traits such as respect for self and others and the acquisition in developing interpersonal relationships.

School counselors provide a variety of services related to children and adults.  Classroom Guidance is a large part of my job.  It includes teaching on topics such as social emotional learning, character education, problem solving, career awareness, and conflict resolution.

Small groups will also be provided for students who may need a little extra attention on certain topics.  The counseling department will also assist in parent education concerning these topics.

The second area an elementary counselor spends a large portion of their time is in Responsive Services. The counselor, parent, teacher and administrators will work together to benefit children.  Responsive Services may include: individual counseling, parent conferencing, referral assistance, consultation, crisis counseling, recommendations, student needs, exchanging or providing information, and reviewing test data.

The school counselor also Supports the school in community relations, program planning/evaluation, providing an information center, and coordinates some testing.

The counselor also assists in the area of Individual Planning.  Some plans may include: home/school, accommodations and behavior.
