About Me

Hi, My name is Charissa Kelly. I have the amazing opportunity to be Duncan Chapel's Literacy Specialist! I am a highly qualified teacher. Duncan Chapel is a wonderful place to teach children and I am honored to work with so many amazing teachers! This is my thirteenth year in education. I taught in the classroom for six years- kindergarten for two years and first grade for four years. I also taught reading intervention (RTI for three years).

After having my first child I stepped out of the classroom and was a part-time literacy specialist at Brushy Creek Elementary. Upon having my second child I began teaching reading intervention for students in an after school program called First Grade Plus at Duncan Chapel. I continued to provide reading intervention to children after school for another year and then began teaching reading intervention part-time to students during the school day. After having my third child, I became a part-time literacy specialist. I am now here Mondays-Thursdays as Duncan Chapel's literacy specialist.

Teaching children how to read has always been a passion of mine. I also enjoy sharing ideas with teachers and helping them identify how to help struggling readers in their classroom. Another desire I have is helping parents learn more ways to help their children at home in the area of literacy.

I graduated from North Greenville University in Early Childhood. I have my Master's Degree from Southern Wesleyan University. I also have my Read to Succeed Literacy Coach Endorsement. John and I have been married for 13 years. He is a special education teacher at Slater-Marietta. We enjoy our summers together spending time with our little ones and traveling. We have a three children; Tucker is 9, Adele is 7, and Anslee is 4. Some of my favorite things are playing sports and coaching, gardening, exercising, drinking any kind coffee, traveling, camping, serving at our church, and spending time with my children and husband. I am looking forward another amazing school year!
