Course Summary

Advanced Personal Finance: This course is an in-depth study of the principles of personal finance. Using experiential activities, students will learn tools and techniques to become financially literate living and working within a global marketplace. 


Career Exploratory: This course will provide students with an opportunity to explore Donaldson Career Center course options of interest through course shadowing and career exploration. Upon successful completion of this course, students have the opportunity to demonstrate career-readiness with the attainment of an industry-recognized certification.

High School Courses/Credits

Students will receive a full credit of Advanced Personal Finance (fulfills graduation requirement) and a full credit of Career Exploratory (elective) upon passing of each course.

Course Details

Goals/Objectives: 


Advanced Personal Finance - Topics include budgeting, managing credit and debt, banking, developing investments, reducing financial risk, computing earnings and taxes, renting or purchasing housing, evaluating post-secondary education and training funding. Also, students will learn to use consumer protection laws, internet safety and cyber security to safeguard their finances.


Career Exploratory - The point of emphasis for this course will be - The right student, in the right program, for the right reason. Topics to be covered include Employability Skills, Career Readiness, Career Exploration, Professional Knowledge, and Occupational Safety.
