Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the field of computer science through an exploration of engaging and accessible topics. Through creativity and innovation, students will use critical thinking and problem solving skills to implement projects that are relevant to students’ lives. They will create a variety of computing artifacts while collaborating in teams. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of the history and operation of computers, programming, and web design. Students will also be introduced to computing careers and will examine societal and ethical issues of computing.

Weighting of Grades

Major Grades 60%

Minor Grades 40%


Grading Scale (as printed in the handbook)

A = 90 - 100

B = 80 – 89

C = 70 – 79

D = 60 - 69

F = Below 60


Late Work Policy: 

-10 Points for each day late

After 5 days it is not accepted. 


ReDo Policy: 


Each semester you will have an opportunity to replace/redo one major grade. If the redo is lower it will not count against you and the redo grade will be averaged with the original grade.  In order to be able to do this you must meet the following criteria for that Major Grade: 


 Classroom EXPECTATIONS

All food, drinks need to be put away except for closable water bottles. Absolutely NO GUM. 

• Respect - teachers, others, equipment, and yourself.

• Put all personal electronics in backpack. Cell phones only with teacher permission.

• Stay seated until class is dismissed. DO NOT move to the door.

• Follow all school policies.

CONSEQUENCES Include:

 Verbal Warning, Contact Parent/Guardian, Referral, Detention
