English 2 CP

English 2 is for students who have successfully completed the requirements of English 1. English 2 introduces literary and informational texts that create awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity. The course is designed to prepare students for the rigor of the South Carolina State Standards for College and Career Readiness. Students will examine the English language and recognize its power to persuade, entertain, and inform a target audience. Students will read informational texts, perform close readings of literary texts, make presentations, study poetry, and write for a variety of purposes, including literary analysis and argumentative essays. Literature studied in this course will be presented and studied by theme. The course includes major themes found in literature, such as tolerance and absolute power, and gives students the opportunity to read critically, engage in discussions, and develop their writing and research skills. After completing this course, students will be prepared to successfully complete the state-mandated End-of-Course exam, which will count as 20% of the student’s final grade.
