About Me

I have been teaching resource for 11 years. My first two years were at Simpsonville Elementary School. In the fall of 2013 I began teaching at Plain Elementary. During the Covid 19 Pandemic, I was a virtual teacher. I am pleased to be back in the school building for my second year post-pandemic. Being away truly made me appreciate my sweet student's hugs, and the support of my peers!

I live in Simpsonville, SC with my husband, Mike, and one of my daughters, Meredith. Meredith, has multiple disabilities and will always live with us. She is my delight and treasure. She makes me laugh and appreciate life every day. She attends an adult daycare program while I am at school two days per week. The other days, she attends a program at the YMCA called RECESS. My second daughter, Savannah, is a nurse. She and her husband, Josh, (also a nurse) live in downtown Greenville, which makes my mama heart happy. We have all lived in Simpsonville for 28 years, but my husband and I are not originally from the south. I am from Denver, Colorado, where I enjoyed outdoor activities and downhill skiing. My husband is from Long Island, New York. He used to enjoy sailing off the coast of the island.

Wake Forest University brought me to the south in 1982. After graduating from WFU with a degree in Health and Sport Science, I went to UNC Chapel Hill for graduate school, where I majored in Recreation Administration with an emphasis on Therapeutic Recreation. Shortly after graduating from UNC, I met my husband. At that time I was working as a Recreation Therapist and fitness instructor at a residential weight loss and eating disorder program. My husband was working as an architect, and eventually his job brought us to Simpsonville, SC. He is still an architect at O'Neal Engineers.

After staying home with my children for 15 years, I decided that I really wanted to become a teacher. I have always loved children, and I find the school environment to be so exciting. The first day of kindergarten for my oldest child was such an exciting day for me! I was giddy with excitement. So, I went back to school at Converse College where I received a masters degree in teaching (MAT).

In my recreational time I enjoy swimming, reading, Zumba, cycling, hiking, camping, crafts, cooking, bead weaving, skiing and being with friends. I also enjoy theater and traveling. I spend a lot of time volunteering for Greenville CAN, The Barbara Stone Foundation, and advocating for people with disabilities.

I look forward to getting know each of you, and teaching all your precious children.
