Hello, I'm Caroline Cowen and I have been teaching since 2012 and teaching IB Chemistry since 2014. I love teaching in the IB Diploma Program because it allows students to discover how to think and learn; not just memorize facts. I'm passionate about helping students understand what chemistry is through discovery in lab. In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my husband, reading, and drinking lots of coffee.

My name is Nancy DeYoung and I teach IB Spanish at Woodmont. I have been teaching Spanish for over 20 years and have taught at Woodmont for the last 3 years. My favorite part of teaching Spanish is observing firsthand the growth of my students in the language and watching their confidence and enthusiasm in their language acquisition increase.

In my free time, I enjoy running, caring for orchids, my dogs, and hanging out with my husband and adult children but not necessarily in that order.

Mrs. Owens

IB Music SL/HL

saowens@greenville.k12.sc.us

I have been the Choral Director at Woodmont High School since 2006 and teaching IB Music since 2017. This is my 19th year in Education. My Husband, Son and I moved back to the area from Charlotte, NC in 2006 after living there for 6 years. I attended Winthrop University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Choral Music Education in 2004. I am married and have 2 wonderful boys; William (17 years) and Nathan (13 years). I received my Masters of Classroom Leadership from Southern Wesleyan University in 2013. It is my goal as the I.B. Music Instructor to teach students how to LISTEN to music, and how to EVALUATE what they are hearing. My end goal in this course is to shape students' minds, and to open their eyes to the world of music history and music theory that is out there. More than anything, in this class, I want students to learn to use their BRAIN as well as their fantastic music education to evaluate and consider all the possible options when it comes to a piece of music.

Mr. Phillips

IB History of Americas

japhillips@greenville.k12.sc.us

Hello, I'm Jim Phillips, Social Studies teacher here at Woodmont. I’ve been teaching since 2011 and teaching IB History since 2016. The IB Diploma Program is all about learning to learn! Students are encouraged to collaborate and learn from one another. They discover how to think BIG and to understand the relationships between people and events; they don’t simply memorize.

I’m an “Army Brat,” that was mostly raised in the Up-State. I’m a graduate of Wofford College and I’m an avid supporter of the Terriers. When I’m not teaching and she’s not “administrating,” my wife and I enjoy travel, movies, sports, good food and being life-long learners.
