Dress Code (Due to Covid-19, we are not dressing out at this time.)

Personal Hygiene

•Students should maintain good hygiene

•Please send either stick or roll on deodorants with your child to school

•Aerosol deodorants or perfumes will not be allowed in the locker rooms. Some students may be allergic to these items

•Uniforms should be taken home (at least) every Friday to be washed

Lockers and locks

•Students will be issued a Locker and should bring a combination lock to put on PE locker!

Attendance

•Any student who misses school is responsible for meeting with the teacher to discuss missed material/activities.

  • Students who are absent will not have a grade for that day

Excuses

· A student must have a doctor's note to be excused.

· Any student who is at school should be able to participate in Physical Education. If the student is sick or not feeling well they should not be at school.

· Students with a doctor’s excuse will be excused 3 days. After that, the student will be given a modified assignment determined by his/her teacher. If the student is out for a prolonged time, written work will be assigned.

A MEDICAL EXCUSE FROM A DOCTOR IS REQUIRED IF PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS EXTEND BEYOND 3 DAYS.

Locker Room Behavior

•NO horseplay of any kind will be tolerated. This includes play fighting and the slap game.

•NO one is allowed to leave or re-enter the locker room without teacher permission

•NO food or drinks

•NO sharing lockers

•NO hairspray, aerosol deodorants, or perfumes

•The physical education department will not be responsible for lost or stolen items. Keep all valuables locked in your lockers

•Cell phones, MP3 players, and other electronics should be left in locker.

•Do not give anyone your locker combination

•At the close of class periods, all lockers are to be locked securely; scraps, debris picked up, and personal belongings removed. Students are to return to their spot on the floor and wait quietly until dismissed by the teacher

•Show respect, and keep locker rooms clean

•Students must have shoes and PE uniform on before leaving locker room.

Procedures

  • Students go directly to locker room to dress out.

  • Students not dressing out do not go to the locker room, they put books in the back of the gym in the back of the bleachers.

· Students will sit in designated spot as soon as they leave the locker room and await instructions.

· Students will be given 5 minutes to dress out and get to assigned spot on the floor. Any student who does not will be considered Tardy.

· At the sound of the whistle, students will be silent and listen for instruction from the PE teacher.

· Students will remain silent and participate in stretching and exercises.

· Students will be respectful at all times to instructor, others, and themselves.

· On Health days, Students will remain in school dress code. No untucking of shirts, taking shirts off, removing shoes or any other article.

FOR YOUR SAFETY, we actively enforce a NO GUM policy:

· Choking on gum becomes a hazard when participating in physical activity

· Gum may fall out of your mouth, creating a problem for janitorial staff to clean up

CLASSROOM AND LOCKER ROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES ARE IN EFFECT TO ENSURE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE LEARNING CAN TAKE PLACE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BREAK ANY OF THE ABOVE LISTED RULES OR PROCEDURES, THE PROPER DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS WILL BE TAKEN.

Asthma, Allergies, or Other Medical Information

•We need to be aware of any medical conditions that may limit physical activity (asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, allergies, etc.)

•All students with asthma, and/or allergies must notify their PE teacher and must have a doctor’s explanation of the condition and limitations

•Students with asthma are encouraged to keep their inhaler on file in the office

•PARENTS: please notify the school nurse if any other medical conditions occur

ALL PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE HUGHES ACADEMY STUDENT HANDBOOK.

Grading

Participation : 100% - Students will start each day with a 100. Points will be deducted if the student does not:

· Dress out- Must follow the PE dress code (20 pts)

· Warm up- Exercises before the activity begins (10 pts)

· Participate in activities (70 pts)

· Have Good Attitude/Sportsmanship

  • *Fitness stations on Tuesdays will be counted as major grades.

  • * Pacer test will be counted as major grade.
